Scrap Books
Why not put together a scrap book of observations you've made throughout the year for example. It could be a collection of photographs or sketches and will once finished provide you with a pattern of species visiting your own garden or local park. You'll be able to track the seasons through your own records. Keeping records in this way over long peoriods of time means you can observe the phenology of species (the study of the timing of natural events), so over a period of 5 years maybe the blue tits that nest in your garden are nesting 3 days earlier than they were originally. For information about what to look for when purchasing a digital camera, and other digital photography tips, see our guide to digital photography.
For tips on sketching species, see the Drawings/Sketches page, or for some creative inspiration see the "A Year in a Suburban Garden".
