If you don't want to fill in spreadsheets in order to record your sightings, but want to have the security of records being held on a computer, why not record using your photographs. Just taking a photgraph already stores 3 of the 4 W's (who - hopefully you if it's your camera, what, and when), all you need to remember is where you were, this is usually easily recognised from the picture. If you label each photo with your name the date it was taken, the location and the species these are ideal records. It also means that you have a record of those species you can't identify for the future. As ever please don't record species you are unsure about - photographs of species can be sent to us for determination, please make sure they are clear enough. Having images store like this means you essentially build up your own ID guide and you can use them to refer back to if you photograph a similar species at a later date.
