Drawings/Sketches

Drawing is an excellent way to record species, as it really makes you analyse the form an insect or plant takes and means without knowing it, you're learning characteristics that define a particular species. Its an excellent way to begin to look at and appreciate creatures close up.

It is also an ideal way to encourage children to observe and appreciate wildlife at school or at home, particularly those who are more creative and wouldn't be interested in filling out a form or table. You can also produce something lovely at the end. If requested, KMBRC will return and original records.

For some inspiration, take a look at the beautiful drawings of Mr E Walters, who has been recording the wildlife in his garden nestled within a suburban Medway town over the course of a year. The full years sketches and further information about the species featured can be seen on the "A Year in a Suburban Garden" page.
