KMBRC is interested in every species found in Kent from fungi to plants and from slugs to mammals, but to expect everyone to record everything they see would be a daunting (not to mention impractical) task. Most people target their record collecting, concentrating on a particular species, genus, family or group. Others restrict their recording to a certain location, such as their garden or a local park. Compiling a list of species that occur in your garden can be very informative. Patterns and relationships soon start to develop over time as you may see a new insect or bird species, attracted by a recently planted garden shrub. There are many publications now available providing guidance on gardening for wildlife and attracting different species to your garden.
In addition to its conservation benefits, recording can be a fun and social pastime.
If you are interested in becoming more involved, there are a number of different
groups and organisations in Kent that are dedicated to the recording of different
species. Details of some of these can be found
here,
or by contacting the KMBRC
If you've recorded plants or animals in Kent and would like to donate your records to KMBRC, please see our
