| Things to look out for in June June means mid – summer with plenty of daylight to enjoy wherever you go. So if the weather is fine June is one of the best months to enjoy Britain’s wildlife. Head for the coast for one of our wildlife spectacles; the sea bird breeding colonies. Any area of cliff top headland will have some kind of nesting place for fulmars, gulls, gannets and possibly guillemots, razorbills and puffins. Wild flowers come into their glory especially in meadows and on the chalk soils of the South Downs. Look out for our rare, beautiful orchids now. Warm summer evenings are the time for our native bat species to emerge in their search for food. Join an organised Bat walk to increase your knowledge of these secretive creatures. Young
birds and mammals emerge now and can often be seen learning the tricks
of survival and exploring their new world. Fox cubs are becoming increasingly
adventurous and will play for long intervals in and around their dens.
