Kent Kids' Wild Watch is an exciting opportunity to help us record Kent's wildlife. We need your help to map Kent's mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians this spring and summer. We need to find out what children see in their gardens or school grounds.

In return for your participation, we would like to give you all the help we can. Everything you require can be downloaded below in either MS Word or Adobe PDF format.

School grounds and gardens are unique in that they have no public access. So if you have a good variety of wildlife at your school, then no-one will know about it but you. By taking part in this survey your school will be able to contribute to Kent's database of species records for sites where we have few, if any wildlife observations.

The survey is ongoing, and has been made simple so children of all abilities and ages can take part - teachers or parents can adapt the lesson ideas to stretch older children if they want to. Recording is such a versatile subject; it really can be done by everyone.

Kent Kids' Wild Watch survey animals:

Mammals:

Badger, Red Fox, Grey Squirrel, Rabbit, Hedgehog, Mole

Birds:

Blue Tit, Robin, Blackbird

Reptiles & Amphibians:

Common Frog, Common Toad, Grass Snake, Slow-Worm

Other species can be used if you wish.

The survey was trialed in 2005 and is now ongoing, and is supported by:
Kent & Medway Biological Records Centre (KMBRC)

The aim of the project is to inspire Kent's schools to map the distribution of given animals across the county, and to help identify good wildlife areas and so help protect the Kent countryside for wildlife.
